In Disorders, Holistic Dental, Pain and Anxiety Management, Restorative Procedures, Temporo-Mandibular Joint (TMJ)

You may have seen those initials tossed around, but do you really know what TMJ and TMD are all about? TMJ stands for the temporomandibular joint in your jaw, and TMD refers to temporomandibular joint disorder. TMD is often characterized by aching or throbbing pain in the jaw or face, and is sometimes mistaken for sinus pain in the earliest stages.

TMD can be caused by an injury, such as during a vehicle accident, or by unhealthy habits. Frequently taking too-large bites of food, grinding your teeth during times of stress or while sleeping and poor posture can all contribute to jaw pain and TMD.

If you’re having unexplained pain in your jaw, even if none of the above seems to fit your situation, call Livonia Family Dentist and let us know what’s going on. We’ll schedule your consultation appointment where Dr. Grunberger can discuss your problem and offer some possible treatments or even a referral for your problem. You don’t have to live with TMD, and the first step to relief is just a phone call away!
