If you’ve had to have one or more teeth extracted in the past,  you may be wondering what your cosmetic dentistry options are for fixing your smile. There are several different restorative procedures, some of which are better choices than others in certain situations.

If you have had several teeth extracted from one area, dentures or a partial (also referred to as a “bridge”) are probably the way to go. These appliances are far advanced from those of the previous generation and can look and feel quite natural when done well.

If you’re only looking to fill in one or two gaps, you’ll probably be best served with dental implants. Implants generally take three phases to complete, with the actual surgical procedure to implant the metal scheduled first. Depending on your situation, you may be able to have a crown fitted to the implant during the same procedure. If your implant needs to heal first, the crown will be applied after your jaw has recovered from the surgery.

If you’re thinking about an implant to replace an extracted tooth, be sure to ask us for more details. We’ll go over the procedure step by step so you know what to expect. We’ll also help you obtain an evaluation to make sure that a dental implant is a good solution for you.
